The City of Temple has been busy working towards completing the parks projects made possible by the 2007 Parks Bond. Here’s an update on the progress.

2007 Parks Bond Updates
Lions Junction Family Water Park - 5000 South 5th Street.
The walls of the pump room and the floor of the bath house have been poured. The approach from South 5th Street to the location of the parking area has been constructed. The main sewer line has been installed and the plumbing lines for the main drains in the pool are being installed. We are still on target for the end of May 2009 for completion.
Sammons Park Indoor Pool - 2220 West Avenue D
On 12-4-08 the City Council awarded the bid on this project. The winning bid was within budget and we can also afford to award two add alternates; one is an additional parking and the other is a UV light treatment for the pool water.
Ferguson Park - 1203 East Adams Avenue
The ADA walkways have been installed and the parking area and drop off lane has been rough graded at this time. The fill material for the new pavilion has also been installed. We are scheduled for completion in late February 2009.
Lions Park - 4000 Lions Park Drive
This project (to build the lighted soccer fields) is underway at this time. However, we have temporarily halted the project to ensure that there are no environmental issues in the area.
Miller Park Trail and Life Stations - 1919 North 1st
The contractor has completed the trail renovation portion of the project and has installed all but one of the 10 exercise stations. The playground has been installed and looks to be a big hit. The final plan for the splash pad is complete and the components have been ordered. The contractor plans to start construction on the splash pad in early December. This is a 180 day project with the scheduled completion date of January 2, 2009.
Summit Expansion - 620 Fryers Creek Circle
This project is progressing according to schedule with the foundation for the new weight room being completed. The plumbing that goes under the slab for the rest of the expansion has been installed. The Temple Civic Theatre has allowed us to use a portion of their parking lot as a temporary staging area for the contractor for the duration of construction. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2009.
West Temple Splash Pad - 121 South Montpark Road
We have settled on a final design for the splash pad and the contractor has supplied the City with copies of the insurance and bonds required for the project. Once we receive the signed copies of the contract, we will issue the "Notice to Proceed" and we will be underway with this project, we are still targeting completion in early spring 2009.
Sammons Park Golf Course - 2727 West Adams Avenue
A plan has been completed for a new layout of the course which changes all holes except one and increases the length of the course and has the turn back to the clubhouse. The project is on hold at this time to evaluate whether or not to renovate the entire or course or just do some smaller improvement to the existing layout.
